In her colorful and varied compositions, Fries has been known to intersperse screen-printed images of thick painted marks alongside the real thing. Often times so convoluted is her play on representing paint and paint representing that it remains nearly indistinguishable in the photographic reproductions of her enlivened reliefs of thick oil paint.
Pia Fries was born in 1955 in Beromünster, Switzerland. She Currently lives and works in Düsseldorf, Germany.
